How long does foundation typically wear for you? Is that long enough?

The ones I’ll wear by choice tend to last a solid eight hours before starting to show some signs of wear, but they’d be minor signs – not heavy creasing or patchiness. I’d prefer a bit closer to 10 hours, which I find I can get to if I set with powder or use a primer underneath.

It depends on the formula…If I’m using a more dewy foundation tht doesn’t set itself it does not last more than 6-7 hours looking good. If I use a self setting foundation and top it with a good setting powder it can last several hours longer and still look good….That being said I find no matter which type of foundation I use a lot depends on the moisturizer and sunblock I put on first. I have very dry skin but if I use a very rich moisturizer it really cuts down on the wearing time of the foundation, but my skin looks plumper and less texture and little lines. If I use a more water based moisturizer I get more wear time for the foundations but my skin doesn’t look a plump! Ha, It’s a no win situation! This is what happens when you arn’t in your 20’s anymore……………..

I’ve been using MAC Prolongwear Waterproof foundation for years and I don’t have issues with it wearing all day long. Unfortunately it’s not available on the MAC site anymore (along many other products) and it seems I have to return to those times 5 years ago when I tried many foundations and nothing stayed on my face. Or I go back to Estee Lauder Double Wear… because my other holy Grail was the Becca foundation discontinued even before the brand closed.

Usually, I can get 7-12 hours out of a foundation before I begin to see it getting settled into the folds on the side of my nose, smile lines or looking a little patchy on my nose or chin. This is even with both primer and powder. Everything so heavily depends on weather (especially humidity!), my oily, acne prone t-zone and activities or the lack thereof. I have always had a major love-hate relationship with foundation. Either they oxidize, or too light or heavy in coverage, or I have one hell of a time trying to get something I really want to try in the correct undertone. And then there’s my sensitive, oilier than one would ever expect someone of 64 years old to have, plus sweating randomly and unexpectedly due to surgically induced full menopause (🔥🥵🔥).

It seems a bit counter-intuitive but the lighter the foundation, the better it wears on me, and still looks good. I have been fighting the fine line creases and have found that my old standby foundations which have near to full coverage, are not looking good by about 5 hours. I have tried primers, powder, etcetera. So, I have turned to much lighter coverage and never thought I would be happy with it but I have found several that I am enjoying. I purchased Chanel Water Fresh Tint almost a month ago and can wear it without setting. The only creasing I get is in the very inside corner of my undereye. I picked up samples of the Rose Inc Serum Foundation at kjh’s recommendation and also got the sample set of the Rituel De Fille 3 drop Serum foundation and I am really liking both of them. I also picked up the Chanel Water Tint Complexion Touch in B10 and am using it sort of as a concealer and it is working well. I am just adjusting my expectations regarding what you can really mitigate once your skin is 70 years old. I don’t really need my foundation to last very long but I do like to know that I am not walking around with really horrible looking foundation and you can’t stand in front of the mirror all day to make sure it stays nice. I think I will be good for winter but next summer may be more of a trial as I don’t know how these thinner foundations will do when the temperature and humidity are off the charts.

10-16 hours is the wear time I expect from a foundation I would repurchase. If it starts fading gracefully at 8 hours, I will finish the bottle, but often not repurchase. That said, I get annoyed trying to find a good long wearing foundation/concealer so often I just mix some waterproof mixing medium into them and wala problem fixed.
