Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’m waiting for a few orders that I placed this week – MAC Holiday and Charlotte Tilbury Holiday.

Weekend plans: I should probably photograph/swatch the ColourPop collection that came out this week! I know I’m volunteering on Saturday for sure, and I’m getting lunch with a friend on Sunday.

Who is your favorite artist? Agnes Cecile and more recently, Erica Helder!

Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 Here’s a breakdown of what we have:

  • Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
  • Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
  • Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
  • Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)

This week's doggo photo/video...

Haul: Nothing! I know, crazy huh! Give me time, I just got to Seattle last night. My daughter and I are planning to hit the shops on Saturday so next week I should have a few things. Not buying much.
Rediscoveries: My Sisley Paris L’Orchidee Highlighter and Blush. I have two shades the rose and the Coral but I favor the Rose one. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed using it.
Updates: So, the MAC Stack mascara has started flaking and “raccooning” after almost a week of decent performance. I am not sure why that happens but I have found it to be true for a lot of mascara’s. They will seem like they are perfect for the first couple of days and then bam, they fail. Anyway, I will use it until I find something else to try. I was suggested a tubing mascara which I have tried once before and can’t remember if I liked it or not. I think it was Thrive but I need to check the ingredient list as I think they may use CBD in some of their products and I am allergic.
Still loving the Chanel Water Fresh Tint and planning on checking out the Rose Inc one on kjh’s suggestion.
My Fantaisie de Chanel blush is everything I hoped it would be and worth every penny I paid for it. There is something about it as it appears to actually melt into the skin and just gives such an ethereal glow. Amazing. Likewise, the Chanel Les Fleurs de Printemps Highlighter| Blush is beautiful also. I knew they would be as Christine reviewed both and they scored really well. I expected the Printemps to be just a smidge pinker than it is but it doesn’t pull orange on me so that is good. I also am loving the Fleurs de Fil eyeshadow palette that I picked up on the secondary market. It was untouched and in original packaging and I got it for less than $20, so love that.

Weekend plans: Spending the weekend in Seattle and doing some retail therapy. Also plan to find a place we haven’t been to before to have lunch. My daughter lives in the West Seattle neighborhood which is sort of it’s own little world. If there was some sort of fast food it would be perfect but then again, fast food would spoil it. We like to try and find a restaurant we haven’t been to before, to try. We tend to go to the same places each time. I had planned on leaving either Monday or Tuesday but she is having car problems so I will stick around until those are sorted.

Favorite Artist: I am really a traditionalist. I love Monet, Raphael and Michelangelo. During our trip to Europe in 2018, we visited the Vatican and when we entered the chapel and I saw Le Pieta I literally started crying. It is hard to describe the impact seeing something that you have only seen in pictures, right in front of you. It is the only work that Michelangelo ever signed. I am not Catholic but seeing it inside the chapel at the Vatican was something that can still move me to tears. Of course, the Sistine Chapel gets all the glory but in my book, it is his sculpture that is truly magnificent.
I also really love the glass work by Chihuly. He has work hanging in the White House and has a museum of sorts next to the Space Needle in Seattle. The installation involves both indoor and outdoor glass vignettes. There is a room with a drop ceiling that the drop is clear glass and his glass is sitting on top of the clear glass and lit from above. It is breath taking and something I would love to mimic in a much smaller space.

Oooh, I feel that. I have very oily skin, and my #1 mascara criterion is ZERO SMUDGING *EVER.* I tried one Eyeko tubing mascara and wasn’t blown away — too thin/wispy/natural looking for my preferences. Tried L’Oreal Beauty Tubes and I’m apparently allergic to something in it. Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Escalator is the only thing I’ve used for like eight years now. It’s some manner of “tubing” type, but it does actually bulk up lashes, and makes absolutely no smudges. Even if I put it on in crazy hot humid weather (gulf south) and wear it all day and then go for a walk/jog…the worst that can happen is that sweat/humidity will kind of make some of it fall off, esp on my lower lashes. No smears at all, just little black shards that can be cleanly brushed away. Even amazinger, it comes right off *woosh* with my normal face wash and water, no oily remover required.

I will note that it has one of those adjustable brush deals, where you can make the rubber bristles quite far apart, or compressed close together. I always use it at the tightest/densest setting, as on my lashes it seems to deposit waaay too much product with the bristles far apart. Lots of places that carry K-Beauty brands have it, but I usually order straight from their own site, as they’ve VERY often got some kind of sale or promo going. Which gives me an excuse to also get their niacinamide serum that I like…

Thank you for the suggestion. I will give it a try. I like the best of both worlds, volume and length and frequently will use two mascara’s to get the effect I want but for now I will settle for anything that doesn’t make me look like a raccoon by mid-day.

Is the Fantaisie de Chanel blush really dewy or overly shiny? I am after a decent blush. I found the MAC Fleur Power one to be underpigmented for me – it hardly lasts half the day and there is so little product in the pan that I think it’s not worth the money they charge for it here.
Having a great day browsing in Seattle and I hope you find something you like.

Deborah S. Avatar

Hi Genevieve, it is hard to answer the question as everyone’s definition of dewy and shiny is different. I do not find it overly shiny or dewy at all. Like you, I am pretty pale so it shows up well on my skin and lasts all day. I don’t know if you have ever tried any of Chanel’s blushes but they are pretty pigmented. I also really like the Gucci blushes and there are some gorgeous colors in that line. I picked up Radiant Pink about 3 weeks ago and between that and the two Chanel blushes, I haven’t worn anything else. In some respects, they are almost dupes of themselves as they are all very similar in color. I have always loved Chanel and Dior blushes and have quite a lot of them. The actual blush lines do not have any glitter or shimmer in them so you can control how much shimmer you want when you add a highlighter. The Fantaisie is marketed as a blush/highlighter so there is some luminosity there. Christine reviewed it here on the blog so you can see it on her face. There is also a YouTuber who used it a lot this summer and you can see her applying it and wearing it. She was actually the reason I first saw it as it was released before I “came back” to makeup so you can go to her YT page, search Chanel Fantaisie Blush and it will give the videos where she uses it. She just recently changed her channel name as she has been doing a series that she was calling, “French for a Day” and it was so popular that she has changed her YT channel name to that. Her name is actually Angela and her channel use to be called, Angela Van Rose. She is Italian but visits and loves France. So search her channel and you can see the blush. She pretty much only does high end makeup though so I have to be prepared that if I fall in love with something, it is going to cost me an arm and a leg. She is about our complexion, super fair and she has neutral undertones, I think. I think you are pretty rosy, right? I apparently have the worlds only changing undertone as it seems to change daily according to SA’s. My daughter and I were testing the samples I got from Rituel de Filles and she says the one that matches me the best is the one with fair olive undertones? Who knows!

I often say things that even I find hard to believe. But I was in the last ~10 people to see the Pieta when Toth smashed her face in 1972. I thought someone had been shot and pushed my mother to the floor. Haven’t seen the repaired Virgin, but it must have been impossible to match that sublime marble. My art faves are Hokusai, Hopper, and Munch, in that order. MFA Boston had an excellent Hokusai exhibit I hit, and Hopper has a Cape Ann retrospective at the CAM. I saw Munch also in 1972 in WDC. I’m so glad I was able to do so many things before crowds and timed tickets.

Yes, she is completely encased in bullet proof glass now. I saw so many things tourists do and many were Americans. I cringed every time. I mean before you entire the Sistine Chapel you are both told and admonished by a sign that says no talking and no photography. Our group was allowed past and within seconds a man whips out his camera and starts taking pictures. He is talking to a woman and all the security guards converged on him and took his camera. Then as we entered the chapel our guide told us not to touch any of the statuary. She did point out one statue that we were allowed to touch and she pointed out how the marble was much shinier in the spot that everyone touches. Of course, people were touching stuff left and right and trying to take pictures in front of the statues. It was really disheartening to see so little respect for the art as well as disrespecting the house of worship that is still used today. I am not Catholic but the idea of disrespecting anyone else place of worship is mind boggling.

Recent Purchases: Nothing this week!

Rediscoveries: I used MY SG Luminous Light Cheek palette today; it’s so pretty and I love the flawless finish those powders give.

Weekend plans: My mom and brother are coming down to visit, which will be great. And we are starting make our lists for vacation in a couple of weeks.

Who is your favorite artist? Alphonse Mucha.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Gourmande Girls Spooked palette -it’s still soooo good!!!
Weekend plans: Going out to dinner with family tonight, having a movie and snack day with a friend Saturday and Sunday another friend is supposed to come over for lunch.
Who is your favorite artist? Leonid Afremov

Recent Purchases: I have been using the Kerastase Bain Chroma Respect Shampoo and treatment for my color treated hair and they seem to work pretty well.

Weekend plans: probably get back into my catch up on Doctor Who!

Who is your favorite artist? Lately I love looking at ink drawings by the late great South Korean artist Kim Jung Gi.

Mariella Avatar

Kerastase is pricey here in Canada too but I’ve found 2 of their products to be worth the cost – the leave in conditioner and the oil (the one of which I got 2 sample Points Perk bottles). My hair is thick, coarse, wiry/frizzy and both of these products really work well. I try to buy during the VIB sale for a bit less “price pain”.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries:
Since I couldn’t place an order at Ulta, I consoled myself with buying a little too much at Sephora and Nordstrom. But I think that scratched that itch for awhile!
Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable blush in Apricot and eyeshadow in Neutral, Natasha Denona Mini Glam palette, Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Brick, Iconic London Brow Silk, Dior Rosy Glow Blush in Rosewood, Charlotte Tilbury Cream Eyeshadow in Pillow Talk, Huda Beauty loose powder mini in Poundcake, Hourglass Unlocked Satin Creme Lipstick in Red 0 (the vegan one). Also, a couple of Clinique eyeliners and mascaras from the Nordstrom sale.
I love the Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner, but I was wondering if my eyes didn’t…they would look red and a little weepy after I put it on. So I’m going to switch to some products for sensitive eyes and see if that makes a difference. I’m also using Well People mascara, which should be gentle! But I think I might go back to my tried and true Almay. We’ll see how the Clinique does.

Weekend plans: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Who is your favorite artist? Gustave Dore, Piet Mondrian, Hieronymus Bosch, and Caravaggio

Recent purchases: I keep trying to buy the Ouai St. Barts body cream but the Sephoras near me are out of it. I did buy ABH Brow Powder Duo in Medium Brown (I think that’s the colour) and it’s so much easier and nicer for me to use than the Dip Brow. I got a backup of Milani eyeshadow primer to take to Japan (not pricey and if I lose it, well, I’ve got one that I’m using now as well as other pricier primers), Revlon Black Velvet Colourstay liner, my birthday gift from Sephora (the Glow Recipe one – they were out of the Ouai one I’d have preferred and I’m not thrilled with these 2 products) and some points perks of Kerastase Hair Oil (I’m planning to go back to pick up the full size – this stuff is GOOD). I think it was a week and a bit ago that I purchased a bottle of OPI Lincoln Park After Dark and forgot to list it here (I love Black Cherry Chutney so I figured I’d love LPAD too and I do). Rediscoveries: The Huda Jaguar “Wild” palette.

Weekend plans: the gym, some cooking (want to bake and freeze some things for Thanksgiving) and a trip to the grocery store.

Favourite artist: Raoul Duffy and Itzhak Tarkay (we bought a painting of his to give to a doctor who was a real hero to both my husband and my mother in law; I wish we’d been able to buy one for ourselves).

Nancy T Avatar

I’m still convinced that Winston is species confused, because he has many a cat behavior or habit, like: sleep ranks high on his list of life pursuits with food #2!

Purchases/rediscoveries: Well, I have a small cart for Sephora waiting for me to decide on what Haus Labs foundation shade is the One! I’m leaning towards 250 for winter, but I would rather go in-store and swatch it, 240 and 230? Thing is, being such a pathetic HERMIT most of this year, I really don’t have much of a summer darkening that I usually pick up just going out and about or using the pool once or twice a week, either. So I’m currently very close to my winter shade if not dead-on.
That said, I will be getting another bottle of The Ordinary HA & Peptides.

Weekend plans: Waiting for my Walmart order to arrive this evening (told y’all that I’m a hermit, 😂). Zoom meeting tomorrow morning. Maybe see if a close friend of mine wouldn’t mind bringing me to Sephora for shade matching afterwards. Laundry. Yet again, there’s a virtual MOUNTAIN on top of my other dresser!

Favorite artist? When I used to view art many years ago, I was always drawn towards the unusual, even surrealistic works of artists like Vincent Van Gogh (still love!), Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. Even my bio-mother’s paintings (also super surrealistic and like she may have dropped some LSD!). But currently, I feel much more connected to art in the form of music and one of a kind clothing designs, I suppose. Though music has always been my primary love in the arts!

Aww – Winnie looks lovely and he is so growing up. Is he lonely without all the pups to play with or does he relish having you to himself? The rescue centre was so lucky when you and Shaun came along to help them out. Enjoy your weekend and your lunch out with friends Christine.

Recent Purchases: I have ordered the Shiseido Syncro Skin foundation in Rose 1 that happened to be onsale at my favourite Aussie online retailer this week. I looked at the Morphe one in Mecca – which matched my skin but they were out of stock

Rediscoveries: After doing a bit of a declutter with my older eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks, I used the last of the Huda Beauty Chocolate Obsessions palette – I had hit pan on all the shades I loved and used it up a few times this week before I decluttered it.

Weekend Plans: We had an amazing day at the Show last week and the kids all loved the many rides, the animals and events. Charlotte was Amazing! All she wanted to do was to be upright on someone’s shoulder so she could see everything. She wasn’t fazed by the crowds at all and little missy, at eight weeks is rolling over onto her tummy already.
This Saturday is the Grand Final of our football code – AFL. It’s already a hot day, which is quite unusual for this time of the year – so I am feeling sorry for the footballers to play in this heat. Nicholas, Lachlan and Henry are coming over to watch the game. Olivia is at a Pony Club camp with her cousin Shelby (who is 28 years old) and her horse Buster – so she will be having a great time of her own.
I am about to head into the shops to get some fruit and groceries for snacks and dinner.
I am not sure about Sunday….

Favourite Artist – I don’t really have one, but I do like Koorie Art the best.

Mariella Avatar

Interesting that you’ve pretty much wiped out your Huda e/s palette because I just took mine out to use for the first time in a while (it’s the Jaguar one….very much CT “The Rebel” vibes). I admire you – I’ve not hit pan on an eyeshadow ever…clearly a sign that I have waaaay too much eyeshadow!

Deborah S. Avatar

I had to really think if I had hit pan on any eyeshadow but after giving it some thought, I realized that I have hit pan and replaced MAC Omega a couple of times and the only shade that I use from the ABH Mod Ren palette is Vermeer and I have hit pan on that one, with multiple shades that have never been touched!

Mariella Avatar

I ADORE Vermeer and have it as a single but that Modern Renaissance palette – it gets a big UGH from me! Like Genevieve, I really abhor all the red, hot pink and orange shadows that have proliferated and it seems to have begun with THAT palette! But Vermeer is luscious. Warm Taupe, Cyprus Umber and Primavera are shades that I could wear from the palette but I’ve got multiple dupes for those. As for the rest – they’d be a total waste of money for me.

Indigenous SE Australia? Just watched Alice and your flora is so exotic to US viewers. I thought the triggering warning in Alice for the indigenous was thoughtful and appropriate. That’s a great mini series, but quite harrowing.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Milk (Expressive) from Commodity. It’s very lush and creamy, kinda unisex, and very unexpectedly awesome. Lasts forever too! To me it feels a lot more grown up than a lot of the newer vanilla-forward scents hitting the market right now.

Weekend plans: I’m starting my second (non makeup non retail) job tomorrow. I’ll be working with a former teacher who runs a tutoring business. I am very good at retail and I love selling beauty products, but I constantly miss education as well. Hopefully this will be a good balance (and help pay my damned student loans!!!)

Who is your favorite artist? So so many! Anka of @artbasealpha on IG, Kendra from @theebouffants also on IG for modern working artists. Historically the list is so long, but I love Hilma af Klimt and Florine Stettheimer, among others. I love art in general and I’m always so excited to discover new styles or artists as well

kjh Avatar

Crashed on this one, too. Goofed on Hilda af Klimt. I thought she’d be Wiener Secession, but is much more like a calmer, less busy Hundertwasser. Or some Klee.

Seraphine Avatar

Recent Purchases: I ordered a backup of MAC Blot Powder from Macy’s because they’re having a 15%-off beauty sale and I hit pan a couple of days ago.

Weekend plans: Reading the book I just bought, laundry, visiting family, etc.

Who is your favorite artist? My favorite art is Pre-Raphaelite. John William Waterhouse and Dante Gabriel Rossetti are my favorite Pre-Raphaelite artists.

Rachel R. Avatar

Winnie is so cute. And gosh are the pups growing like weeds!

RECENT PURCHASES: A few weeks ago, I got the Nomad Cosmetics Okavango Safari, Orient Express (on sale and being DC’d) and Ghost Town USA Palettes.

WEEKEND PLANS: Putting up Halloween Decorations, block panels for Halloween throw pillows I crocheted, and start making my brother a new scarf. Laundry and shopping.

My favorite artist is Van Gogh

I proved to myself that I should only do short answers, because I refresh and crash, >50% of the time. More for Deborah: tubing: Blinc was fine when it was the only game in town. Now, it sells so poorly that most tubes seem remaindered. L’Oreal: dreadful. Eyeko: don’t get me going. Most formulas require a jackhammer and blow torch to remove. Caliray? A faux tubing. Better as it ages, but not really tubing. No7, if they still make it, was good, but a bit spindly. My fave seems to be Essence Goodbye Panda Eyes. Other art: a collection of tee shirts with b+t dachshunds. Trapped under the dripping clock, in Mona’s and Whistler’s Mothers lap, surfing the Great Wave…And yes, I saw Red AFuji, which is a real meteorological phenomenon and that wave, which is scientifically accurate photo’s at 1/10,000 of a second
