Acacia (408)

Chanel Acacia (408) Ombre Premier Libre ($40.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium-dark, plummy-brown with warm, copper undertones and a semi-matte finish.

  • Mostly opaque pigmentation but sheered out as soon as it was blended out
  • Drier, almost crumbly, texture; fallout from applicator but also during application
  • Did not adhere well to bare skin, applicator worthless, had to be pressed firmly onto skin with fingertip
  • Short-wearing (faded after six hours of wear)

Formula Overview

$40.00/0.14 oz. - $285.71 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "pearlescent and intense pigments" that deliver "vibrant color with a satin sheen." The texture was described "as fine as a puff of dust, becoming creamy upon application" and has "8 hours" of wear. The sponge-tip applicator was designed to be used directly on the lids.

Loose eyeshadow is typically more difficult to work with than pressed eyeshadow, so I feel like most buyers are looking for something extra about a loose formula, and there was absolutely nothing special about these... and they were particularly challenging to work with. I was surprised at how NOT finely-milled the texture was myself; there was a general dryness to it that made them prone to sheering out as they did not adhere well to bare skin.

The applicator made exacerbated that--the only way I could really get them to adhere decently was to really press it into the skin and do almost no blending as blending resulted in some of it disappearing and some of it resulting in fall out. Speaking of fall out, there was a significant amount of product fallout--aka waste--every time I opened it, as that applicator did not hold the product well. It was also very short/stubby, which may not be comfortable to hold in the hand for some.

One of my favorite parts about Chanel's eyeshadow quads is that they tend to sit well on bare skin, but these emphasized dryness and imperfections. They lasted six hours before showing signs of fading.

Well, I can’t say I am surprised. From what I have seen on social media they have been pretty much panned every where. The few beauty influencers that said they were good mentioned how hard they had to work to make them look good and then said that they thought that was the intent?!! They don’t even have particularly unique shades so that maybe you would want to work at making them look good. Very sad. Chanel should have thrown these in the hopper and started over and I am a pretty big Chanel fan.

Oh well now. I was super interested in these for the whole latte makeup trend, but they seem to be one of Chanel’s rare total flops. Glad I restrained myself when I first saw them in stock!

OMG – how can brands do this? In one moment, deliver gorgeous quads and the next – these impossible fails of formula and delivery method?
I love the first two shades – the second one is very similar to a shade I use from Maybelline’s Burgundy Bar palette (which is outstanding for the price – no disappointments there!).
I think it is the delivery method that is also at fault here. Chanel would have been better off just using a normal pan instead of something fancy like this. But the formula must also be at fault too.
A shame, because the colours are lovely.

Wow I am surprised by these ratings. I bought 4 of these and agree that the applicator is worthless. But I tap some out on my hand and use a brush to apply. I have not noticed fading in such a short time but I am priming my lids w/ urban decay primer potion. I will say that I pretty consistently use three of these for a complete eye look (sycomore on lid, bois for crease/corner, and murier noir for liner) and it is gorgeous.

Execution of this product was poor but the powder is nice once you really work with it. But yeah … should have been packaged differently.

I got MURIER NOIR and i have mixed to negative feeling, although the color is beautiful the aplication is a mess, there is a lot of fall out, application is so so ,at my lower lash line is fine on the lid is patchy one time the next one is good like it has a mind of it’s own.It takes definitely a lot more time for blending which is a no no.
