I’m glad more brands are releasing cream/liquid eyeshadows–I reviewed 215+ different shades this past year–and I’m curious to see what 2023 brings. As one might expect, ColourPop did account for over 110 of those shades with their propensity to release new products, but I’m always here for Super Shock Shadows. Those are one of my favorite cream eyeshadows since trying years ago, and I’m surprised more brands haven’t released similar formulas.

Temptalia’s Favorite Cream Eyeshadows | 2022

If you’re unfamiliar with how I like to do my year-end favorites, here’s the low down: I pull from the products I reviewed in 2022, regardless of whether they were new, limited edition, or an established range I’ve only just gotten around to reviewing. These are personal favorites, so they may or may not be the highest rated products reviewed during the year (though they will tend to be better rated, naturally!). (You can check out the best of 2021 posts if you missed last year’s.)

Your Year in Review: Cream Eyeshadow Edition

I thought it would be interesting to read through how readers used products throughout the year, what favorites emerged, what products fell by the wayside… so, if you want to join in, copy and paste the questions below and add your answers via a comment!

  • What was your most used cream/liquid eyeshadow? Least used?
  • Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new?
  • Was cream or liquid eyeshadow a big part of your routine in 2022?

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What was your most used cream/liquid eyeshadow? Any of several jumbo cream eyeshadow pencils due to their having a wax based formula that resists my allergy tears 90% of the time. Been using a lavender one from MAC, a beige shimmer from Elf, and a few of my oldies but goodies from Nyx. Trick to these are to apply only a thin, thin layer well spread out over either the Smashbox Always On 24HR or the one by MAC that is pretty much the same as Smashbox’s formula.

Least used? Sadly, I’ve really been neglecting my ColourPop SSS’s. Not even sure why, either.

Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new? I do want to try the Phytosurgence ones!

Was cream or liquid eyeshadow a big part of your routine in 2022? Only as a super waterproof, alien acid tears-proof barrier.

What was your most used cream/liquid eyeshadow? Least used? My most used cream eyeshadows are from the Maybelline’s Burgundy Bar palette and particularly in autumn/winter I use these shades a lot.
I don’t have any single cream eyeshadows – although I am tempted.

Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new? I have repurchased the Burgundy Bar palette once (it got a bit wrecked on a road trip a few years ago). And I would replace the current palette I am using when I hit pan on the shades. It is that good.
I do love the new Lisa Eldridge shades, but I am not sure how they would work on my hooded, ageing eyelids.

Was cream or liquid eyeshadow a big part of your routine in 2022?
Definitely not liquid, but the cream eyeshadows from the above mentioned palette were quite a part of my routine this year.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST USED CREAM/LIQUID EYESHADOW?
Probably ColourPop SSS in La-La.
LEAST USED? Most of my ColourPop SSS. I keep forgetting about them.

WILL YOU REPURCHASE IT OR WILL YOU LOOK FOR SOMETHING NEW?
I want to try the About Face Matte Fluid Eye Paint.

WAS CREAM OR LIQUID EYESHADOW A BIG PART OF YOUR ROUTINE IN 2022?
No, but it never is.

What was your most used cream/liquid eyeshadow? Least used?
Most used was Smell B4 Rain by about-face, followed by cloned. They were great easy work options when I’m rushed in the morning. Least used was rare beauty nearly mauve. It was my gateway drug into liquid eyeshadow but other colors were more versatile.
Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new?
Already purchased another shade today! I think the about face formula has become a staple for me.
Was cream or liquid eyeshadow a big part of your routine in 2022?
YES I switched to liquid eyeshadow and blush sticks this year. After pregnancy my skin changed and I have less time to do my makeup with an infant around, so a one and done liquid eyeshadow has become a huge part of my routine
