Pay Day
L’Oreal Pay Day Infallible Matte Resistance Liquid Lipstick ($13.99 for 0.17 oz.) is a medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and a flat, matte finish (once it finished drying down).
- Nearly opaque pigmentation in one layer
- Smooth, fluid, and easily spreadable
- Applied evenly; very tacky as it set (took about 1.5 minutes) – do not touch lips while setting!
- Long-wearing (8 hours very well, but not 16 as marketed); lightly drying over time

Formula Overview
$13.99/0.17 oz. - $82.29 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "bold color payoff" in "one effortless swipe" that will last for 16 hours and have a "powdery matte finish" and a "lightweight feel." They are pigmented, matte, and fairly lightweight/flexible once they dry down, but they are lightly to moderately drying and not all shades performed as well. The lighter shades felt thicker, were heavier on, took longer to dry down, and broke down unevenly after a meal (particularly from the center of the lips).
The more mid-tone and deeper shades tended to apply better and felt more comfortable to wear, as they were thinner and more forgiving of lip texture and lip lines, plus they wore away more evenly over time. The larger issue with these is that while they are drying down, you cannot touch your lips together at all as they get quite tacky in that in-between time and will lift up product. Some shades took as long as three minutes to set while others were more like a minute or so.
The lighter shades lasted five to six hours before becoming unbearably uneven and needing a reapplication (well, full removal and then a fresh application). The darker shades lasted six to eight hours well and lingered into the 10th hour decently. I found the formula to be on the drying side, though not the worst I've come across over the years.
There was a heavier floral fragrance that was noticeable in the tube and as the product dried down, but it seemed to dissipate after it was fully set.

This is really a beautiful color but even at such a nice price point, it is going to be too drying for my lips. When it comes to really dark, saturated lip products and my being a lip worrier, they have to be emollient so that they don’t wear off in nasty ways.
I have to make a quick mention about how strange it is to be on some secondary market online shops in far off countries and find yourself looking at Christine’s eye starring at you, LOL! I was on a very obscure Asian secondary shop website last night and as I was scrolling through, here is your eye, Christine. There were a lot of them and your lips also, though not quite as many lips as eyes. I would have known had I given it any thought before so it is probably a bit USA privileged snobbery or something like that that made me surprised but for you it must be common. You have the best quality pictures and everyone knows it so we rely on you for your high resolution photo, accurate color description and spot on reviews, not to mention your integrity.
The formula sounds strange (the way it dries, etc.) but I love the elegance and beauty of the packaging.
The shade itself looks stunning, but the “lightly drying” description is a turn off for me.
I quite like the shade, but the formula is off and that flat matte finish doesn’t do anything for the product.
I love this colour!
A pity it’s a bit drying. I think I would have bought it if it hadn’t been. I need a bit of moisture for my lips.
