Golden Majesty

Pat McGrath Golden Majesty Skintillating Diamond Body Shimmer ($52.00 for 0.70 oz.) is a darker, peachy gold with fine, golden sparkle intertwined with finer, darker pearl. It had a translucent base–as marketed–with a drier, looser feel that “puffed” up every time I opened it, so it was a bit messy to use and prone to losing product. I have found this to be consistent with loose body shimmers in this type of packaging, though.

I did not feel like there was a lot of finesse to the formula, so while it had a pretty effect applied to the skin, it did not adhere that well–not evenly, not precisely, and was very easy dusted away–so it had to be applied over more hydrated skin. This was one method recommended by the brand for greater intensity but it was really required for any intensity that lasted longer than a couple of hours.

The formula is supposed to have "translucent coverage" and is "lightly fragrance" (slightly floral-ish). It was, in fact, on the more translucent side and a lot of the impact and coverage depended on applicator method and how much was picked up since it was a loose product. I found that it was a drier loose product that did not adhere that well to bare skin, so I would recommend applying over damp skin.

While the brand recommended application over hydrated skin, that was for higher intensity; I found it difficult to get longevity and precision without doing so.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Christine, as these are marketed as body powders, do you know if they’re considered safe for use on the face or on eyes? Would you wear this as a facial highlighter on a long term basis (if it were higher quality) or would you be concerned about it being irritating or unsuitable for facial skin?
