Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Your skin tone/coloring: Under my name. I have very fair coloring with neutral to cool undertones, grey hair and dark brown eyes. I have 70 year old skin to lots of wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and sagging. Trying to maintain what I have left.

Last perfume you used? Joy by Jean Patou. Still one of my favorite scents.

Last eyeliner you used? Florasis Songyan Tracing Eyeliner in shade Pine Soot. I am awaiting Lisa Eldridge’s new liner launch and hoping they perform as she indicates.
Last mascara you used? I am testing the MAC Stack Waterproof today. Prior to that I have been using several of the Cover Girl mascara’s. It is a long story and not particularly interesting but I haven’t found my holy grail mascara and am very dissatisfied with those I have been trying. We will see about the MAC Stack. I do wish the waterproof had the option to have the smaller and thinner wand as the regular MAC Stack does. The waterproof only comes with the bigger wand, or at least that was all I found at Ulta.
Like a lot of older women, I have hooded eyes. I need a mascara that can stand up to touching my hood without creating racoon eyes or flaking every where. I also get transfer to the lower lash line even though I try many different things to prevent it such as powdering well, using primer and powdering, keeping everything away from the lower water line. You get the picture. I have samples of two Chanel mascara’s which I rather hope don’t work as I don’t want to pay that much for mascara. I don’t want to pay for the MAC Stack either. I would much prefer to find a good drugstore option as replacing them is much easier for me while living in the woods. I prefer length and separation which is also new for me. I use to like big, gloppy, clumpy and spidery lashes. I am looking for something less all of the above and more separating.

Finding the HG mascara is really very hard. I have given up on the drugstore brands, sadly as they are a bit more affordable then the ones that are contending to be my HG, so far MAC Stack, not the waterproof, and Lancome Lash Idole have made it to the next round so has Wander Beauty Mile High Club.
Next to be tried out is one from YSL.
I have oily hooded eyes, and I do know the racoon eyes, I have to make sure the hoods stay as oil free as possible, blotting them and even using setting powder over the eyeshadows, translucent and very, very sparingly.

The struggle is real. When I was a sophomore in high school, I found a Cover Girl mascara that worked perfectly for me. It was a tubing mascara. I used it until the discontinued it sometime while I was in college. I tried another waterproof CG and loved it, although I missed the tubing. I used that mascara for many, many years. CG would discontinue it and I would be heartbroken but when they simultaneously launched a new shadow that was exactly like the previous DC’d mascara I was happy. I would continue on using each new iteration of that mascara. I continued using it while doubling up on mascara’s purchasing some high end ones that I liked and then would add the CG just to add the waterproof aspect. Following my makeup sabbatical, the formula has been changed and I have tried several new CG’s and none match the previous formula. Hence, the search. I like the Chanel tester that I have, so far. We will see tomorrow.

Besides the original CG mascara, I have tried a Thrive one but wasn’t really happy with it either. It actually flaked on me. I have not tried the Merit one. I will check that one out. Thank you.

Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones

Last perfume you used? EL’s White Linen

Last eyeliner you used? With my hooded eyes, I don’t tend to use an eyeliner as such, but use an eyeshadow with a fine brush to create the same effect. Today it was the darker brown shimmery shade from ND’s Glam.

Last mascara you used? Natio’s Tubing Mascara

Last perfume I used: Polo Red Intense by Ralph Lauren. I actually got it for my husband years ago so he could try wearing fragrance for special occasions, but he seems to hate perfume more as time goes on, so now it’s just mine ha ha.
Last eyeliner I used: the other day I swatched a bunch on the back of my hand, starting with NYX’s Epic Wear stick in Chartreuse (which I was surprised is actually sorta similar to UD’s Stargazer)…does that count?
Last mascara used: I don’t remember at this point 😅
