It’s one of those products that I just never got into. I don’t think they are ineffective per se, just that I find my all-over moisturizer (or serum) works well enough that I wouldn’t seek out a targeted eye cream.

The ones I love for daytime use need to have caffeine in them (because I have had dark circles under my eyes my ENTIRE life, not kidding), and not be so emollient as to wreak havoc on my eye looks. Also, they must be sensitive-eye friendly. My nighttime eye cream is another story. I love a very hydrating, nourishing, rich one at bedtime! Oh, and I use all my eye creams all over my upper lid and under-eye, for reference.
What I like – the ones that have caffeine
What I dislike – they’re always HALF the size of a regular cream and FULL price. It’s absolutely ridiculous the things corporations do to customers just because “they can.”
I use facial moisturizers and oils all over my face, including my eye area, and have never experienced an unfavorable reaction or issue doing that. I *do* keep The Inkey List’s caffeine eye cream in my fridge and on extra puffy days it is a real treat……..it’s also ten dollars and doesn’t pretend to be an amazing moisturizer.
I just use my regular face cream for my under eyes for my nighttime routine. When I do my makeup is still haven’t found a face cream for under my eyes, that is as good as the Clinique All about eyes cream
I’ve used eye creams for more than 40 years. I know Paula Begoun always says they’re not necessary but I use them. The thing I dislike is that all my favourites – one from Origins with sunscreen in it, a great one from Elizabeth Arden, another from Clarins….just so many of them – have all been discontinued! GRRRR. I am also not crazy about the fact that they are generally really pricey when compared with a regular face cream from the same company. And I do try to convince myself that they’re not necessary….but I still keep buying and using them!
I trust Paula Begoun’s expertise, but I never agreed with her on eye creams and scrubs. 😆
I was excited that the brand finally listened the customers, but I can clearly tell that their eye creams and Unscrub are created from the perspective of a team that finds them useless… they are the less good products of the brand from my perspective.
For the longest time I didn’t use a separate eye cream, but the one from Bobbi Brown really plumps up my lines and wrinkles now that I’m almost 50 years old. The only problem is that it is also so moisturizing that it can make my lower eyelid mascara smudge.
I would love an under eye cream with sun protection that don’t stink the eyes
I have ice blue eyes and super thin skin under my eyes. I’ve tried several that swear they are for my type of skin only to waken to puffiness. I may be in luck because that’s not where any wrinkles are on me due to wearing sun glasses always.
When one has mature aged skin, sometimes targeted under eye creams can be effective in providing additional moisture to the eye area. Every now and again I remember to use one. I probably should use them more regularly but I tend to forget.
And, like with all skin moisturisers, some are better than others. Overall, I think they are effective when applied diligently.
I keep one around for when needed: I love how a caffeinated eye cream can be soothing, dealing with puffiness, and massaging it in helps with strain, especially after strain from screen-time, too early of a morning, not a great night’s sleep, a headache, etc.
I dislike how some under eye creams are scented. I also distrust eye creams formulated with too long of an ingredients list especially those that include so-called “clean” ingredients.
My eye area can be sensitive so when I find one that works I use it. I’m 62 and I don’t have a lot of wrinkling just some crepeness on the upper lids. I have just noticed a couple of dark spots around my right eye so now I am looking for one with spf and I am hoping to find something that won’t irritate my eye area.
I also use my facial serum & cream for my eyes but in a way that i moisturise my whole face first then any residual bits on my fingers will be dabbed on my eyelids/ undereyes.

I’ve tried a few, but I never found them to be effective on me, even when used long term. That said, I haven’t tried a ton and am not well versed in all the ingredients.
I am fully aware that eye creams are basically expensive glorified moisturizers that do nothing. I often use thicker sample moisturizers or serums or eye cream. But dammit, I love myself a good eyecream. 😆
I am “blessed” with genetic black circles, dry under eyes and I had lines under my eyes all my life (I noticed them first at 11-12 years, when colleagues were nice enough to highlight that “only” old women have wrinkles). But my skin was always more on the oily side, combination in the best of days. So I simply cannot apply the same face cream under my eyes and viceversa.
So I absolutely love eye creams that are hydrating and lightweight, that sit well under my concealer and add a little bit of soft focus. I prefer squeeze bottles that don’t ooze too much product and allow precise dosing.
I hate eye creams that make the concealer move or fade, eye creams that irritate my sensitive eyes. When it comes to packaging I hate eye creams in pots and those metal applicators.
I’ve used eye cream for forever. I like using a dedicated cream and I use it under and over the eyes as well as on the lid.
I like ones with retinol for nighttime and a moisturizing one with caffeine for day wear. I generally don’t use mascara on my lower lashes, but even when I do I’ve not noticed any smearing. I don’t use concealer under my eyes as I find they make the crepeyness look worse, I use my foundation and figure the creased crepey (how on earth do you spell this???) looks worse than a bit of darkness.
I’ve never been able to stick with using one, although now that I’m starting to develop tear troughs and some sunkenness beneath the eyes I’m looking a them a bit more seriously. The prices though – ouch!
