Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

The last makeup product I regret purchasing was Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation a couple of months ago. Just awful on my skin. But moving away from makeup, the literal last product I regret purchasing was Chanel No. 5 L’Eau, which I bought last week. From a review I had read, I thought it would be different than Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere, which is one of my favorite fragrances. But it turned out to just be a watered down, less interesting version of it. So I returned L’Eau yesterday.

The one I bought is also terrible! It’s a light warm bronze shade (I had hoped it would be a cool taupe) so not a highlighter for me but I haven’t had good luck with shadow sticks lately, regardless of price. I just stick with my Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, ByTerry and Kiko Milano sticks instead

Because I visit your site, plus several very trustworthy YouTube reviewers, I haven’t bought anything so awful that I hate it upon first use and want to toss it, it’s been quite a while. The only things that come to mind are a few lighter (for me) pink/rose lipsticks that have a gold shimmer? Only because those generally have an oddly flat frosty look on me that just isn’t flattering. Well, unless I throw on a lipgloss over it. Yet, I keep falling for them!

Some of my favorites are: Charlotte Holdcroft, Alicia Archer, Morgan Turner, JenLuv (but she has greatly reduced the volume of reviews on her channel, but brutally honest when she does, just like Christine here is), Tara Lynn, Amanda @ makeup.just.for.fun is pretty good, too, Chelsea @ Glam Girl Chelsea (except that she just announced that her makeup content will be more limited as she would like to do more fashion and lifestyle content going forward, and one of my favorites of all, Mel Thompson, died suddenly a few years ago, and her BFF Kelsee Brianna Jai has stepped back from the beauty community to a noticeable degree, very understandable considering. These are the main ones that I follow for reviews, tutorials, comparison swatches.

Maybe Glossier Boy Brow. I wanted something quick and easy for doing my brows and making them look a bit stronger and more “groomed”. My daughter uses Boy Brow so I bought it in the brown shade figuring black would be TOO MUCH but brown doesn’t really do much (maybe a good thing since I am not a fan of the really dark and heavy looking brow). I think I might try ABH brow powder next….but I need to figure out which of Medium Brown or Taupe would be better for me.

The most recent was Rare Beauty’s powder highlighter. Described as glassy, not glittery, it turned out to be one of the most sparkly highlights I’ve ever seen and I hate glittery face products. It was especially disappointing as Enlighten is one of the very rare champagne shades I can wear as it’s pale with a neutral leaning cool undertone, so it didn’t leave a dirty looking cast on my vampiric skintone….it just left an explosion of glitter instead!

I’ve not bought much lately.
I do regret buying Maybelline Foundation Skin Tint whatever it’s called. I thought skin tint would be a sheerer foundation, but so far when I applied it in a sheer layer it was patchy (applied with a beauty blender sponge). Today I used it with a brush, without primer and I got the lovely polka dot pores, and the layer wasn’t sheer but rather medium to full coverage. I’ll probably keep testing it with other primers, but right now I really wish I’d just let it stay on its shelf.
On the plus side, the colour is really quite good for my skin tone.

Laneige caramel apple lip mask (which is apparently a highly controversial and offensive thing to say, to a lot of people).

Horrible smell, horrid tint to the lips (because hardly anyone wears it just at night at home) and just really bad.

Pat Mcgrath and Essence mascaras. Pat McGrath flakes like crazy on me every time and I have never met an Essence mascara that I like. Those are always WAY to gloopy and so much comes out on the wand I’m scraping forever. I know they’re really popular but not a one has worked for me.

Nyx eyebrow fiber gel, I forget the name, thick it stick it? A Youtuber I really like loves that product but I feel like it does nothing for my brows, I prefer Benefit Gimme Brow+ or the Kosas brow gel, so I’m used to more pigment? But I still try to use it here and there.
