I’m not a huge fan of minis – if I like something, I want the FULL size of it. The exception might be pencil liners or pencil shadow sticks because the large ones can dry out long before I finish them (I think people who aren’t into makeup the way so many of us here are probably do finish a shadow pencil like those from Laura Mercier or do finish other products that dry up over time but for many of us here, that’s not the case).

Mascara! Because I don’t wear it every single day, I never finish a tube before I need to toss it. The only limitation for me is that my favorite, while inexpensive, never comes in a mini. I’d love to be able to buy a 3 pack of L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara minis in black!
There are a few mini-mascaras that I really like that I pick up as 100 point perks, but those can be hit or miss.

Fragrance and nail polish. My use of both tends to change frequently with my mood and the seasons. Mini sets are an economic solutions for this. If I find a holy grail in them, then I’ll go ahead buy 3 or 4 full sizes of that one thing.

I’m not a huge fan of minis but I do like travel-size mascaras because I don’t use mascara that often and I throw it out after, at most, 4mo. I can’t use a whole tube of mascara in that time even if I’m using it every day; it’s such a waste.

I really like most mini sets. I think it is the perfect way to try out a lot of a particular product prior to buying the full size. While skincare products cannot be effective in such a small size, you can get a good idea of the feel, texture and whether the product meshes with your other skincare items. I have been using a gift sample size of the Chanel Eye Cream, twice a day, since I made my last trip to Spokane. I still have about a quarter of the tube left. Now, having said that, I don’t think it is doing anything as I would be happy if it just decreased my puffiness in the morning but it doesn’t!
If pressed to pick one type of mini set, I would say perfume. A lot of the time I will spray a scent on myself at the store and also onto their little paper strips and I will think I love it or hate it right away but with a little sample, I have found that many times, I don’t like it after wearing it for a couple of times.
In keeping with my writing a marathon answer for every question, (I blame it on living alone and here I feel like I am having coffee and chatting with good friends), I use to love the little tubes of lipstick that Avon gave you when you were shopping their line. My mom would give them to my sister and I to wear and even when we were really too young for lipstick, she would let us wear it around the house. I think more brands should give out those types of samples. The little bubbles are terrible when it comes to lipstick samples. Once opened you either have to find a way to keep it contained and you don’t know if exposure has changed the color. You can’t carry it with you to reapply during the day. There wasn’t a lot in those little sample lipsticks but enough to let you know whether you love the shade and feel and want to buy the full size. Loved them!!

I love the miny blush sets. The ones I fell in love with are by Rare Beauty. They have amazing pigment, so I don’t feel the need to have a full size. The bonus is I get to try the shades without committing…a win in my book!

Like Mariella, I am not a fan of mini sets because quite often they contain samples that I wouldn’t use – a lipstick shade (they’re usually in shades of pink), a toner in a skincare set etc. Also they are not really environmentally friendly with all of those small tubes and bottles.
I’ve had a few mini sets – a lipstick one from PMG where two of them broke, a perfume set from Chloe where the lids were not sprays but tiny, weeny little stoppers that I couldn’t get out….not very happy chappy about all of that.
However, some of the skincare ones aren’t too bad – Clinique usually offers a decent set.

I like mini eyeliner sets, especially those with some colours in them. I love trying new liners and I wear coloured liner as often as I wear black or brown. Having minis allows me to use them up before they dry out. I also like mini lip gloss sets as I don’t wear them that often but I do wear them sometimes and I will not likely finish a full-size one before it goes off.

I really love all mini makeup sets! I have quite a lot of makeup, don’t finish a lot of the products. Minis allow me to try new exciting formulas and colors without committing to full size. I have some of the mini hourglass blushes and LOVE them, they last for years!
