Editor's Review

The Rouge Allure Velvet formula is supposed to be a "non-drying matte lipstick" with "intensely rich, long-wearing colour" and has a "velvet matte finish." Over time, I felt like the formula has improved and is actually non-drying (the original launch did not wear well on me) to lightly drying (seen more in shades that have lasted six to eight hours). The pigmentation varies from shade to shade but is usually semi-opaque to opaque with a semi-matte to satin finish. The texture had a velvety, glide-on feel that doesn't feel particularly creamy or wet, yet the lipstick is comfortable to wear over the four to six hours it typically lasts for. Like most Chanel lip products, they have a rosy scent but no discernible taste.

Claims / Ingredients

Highly concentrated pigments create an even, long-lasting result, while soft-focus microspheres combine with ultra-fine pearly particles for a luminous-matte finish. A blend of shea butter and a jojoba oil derivative instantly leaves lips feeling moisturized.

Exactly what I want from a spring and early summer lipstick! I know my face and my complexion, and this also is my idea of a basic shade (I’m from Texas, so while I do wear nudes, pinks are also in my default options). I wanted a light-wearing, very high quality cool raspberry this year, and I chose this over Givenchy and Guerlain’s offerings (and even some of Chanel’s others, including L’Indomidomle) because I am on a shine kick and I also like the limited availability. I am still edging back into collecting Chanel after many years away, but the new very lightweight formulae are enjoyable after years of wearing heavy MAC mattes (love em but they have their place) and I look forward to wearing these more often as spring turns to summer. I think I see a few more Chanel purchases in my future, but I love mixing the high with the low, the big houses with indie makeup, so we’ll see where things take me. Updates aiming if I have any problems with the formula. . . Did I mention the color is gorgeous??!!

I understand some find the Allure Velvet line too expensive for its performance but this shade is an exception! It wears well for six hours, which starts fading after the fifth hour. It feels moisturising until the fourth hour then gradually becomes neither drying nor moisturising over time. It doesn't settle into lip lines like other Allure Velvet lipstick shades and builds to fill coverage in three passes. It has some slip during the first half hour of wear but dries down to a comfortable matte afterwards. La Favorite is a nice, wearable bright coral pink. It doesn't wash out my NC 25 skin tone as it has a hint of mauve that mutes the brightness. This is similar to Bobbi Brown's Luxe Lip in Pink Guava, although slightly more muted. It has a satin finish that looks matte over time. For a lipstick, it doesn't transfer as much as other formulas. I love how the bullet has to be pushed down to pull out of the cap. Prevents my lipstick from accidentally getting uncapped or twisting the bullet into the cap.

I really LOVE this lipstick, it suits my lips and skincolor great! This one is very easy to apply, pretty bright, and give my lips great matte effect with very little and delicate shimmer. This one may dry a little. On me the lipstick lasts around 4-5 hours with coffeebreak.

La Bouleversante (51) is a beautiful shade and I purchased it with the fall 2015 collection. I hoped it would work. Unfortunately, for the cost, I think it needs too much help. The formula is not matte if you are looking. it needs 2 coats to not be patchy. It does have a shine. it only wears about 4 hours on me without a liner and it also feathers a little which is not a huge problem normally for myself. So, The thing I found unique about this shade was the light red color which made it nice for day time wear. Well, given it's issues, it needs a lip liner. I tried a clear one ( Urban Decay Ozone) and it did not help the patchiness. A red liner changes the shade. So, I'm returning it.

in medium/tan-olive skin tone, this color blends really well. but if you're looking for a nude/brown tone, this product has a little more pink hue. great for everyday wear because the color does not really stand out. I got this for a christmas present.
