Cool Eyes

MAC Cosmetics Trip II Collection

Launch Date: April through August 2009 at Duty Free Shops (at Airports)

Launch Date (Updated): Now available as of March 23, 2010 online at MACCosmetics.com.

UPDATED/EDITED MARCH 23, 2010

Hi all!  MAC has put the Trip Collection online for sale — this collection is not new.  It was originally released in Summer 2009.  It consists of permanent or previously released limited edition shades, but there are no new or exclusive shades to the collection.  It is available ONLINE ONLY at this time.  If I have swatches or a review available, you will find the collection that the shade was from originally linked.  Might be a good way to snag some old LE shades you missed out on if you’re newer to MAC 🙂

Would be good for travel but I’m not really willing to go to Duty Free for these lol. I’d rather just mix and match some colours and put them in a quad.. same thing only you get to choose the colours you want 🙂

Teresa Avatar

I just want the neutral one, how do you know if what airport has them? I might be doing some traveling in April, would love to check them out. thanks.

Alex Avatar

You can only access duty free shops when flying international. They don’t just let you walk in and shop, you actually have to have a boarding pass to even be in the store.sad cuz these are a pretty good idea

gail Avatar

OMG I’M GETTING cool eyes and maybe the bronze eye and cheek too. Booking my holiday now especially!! (only kidding, but I know someone going abroad this month YAY!!! So excited, have been wanting Springtime skipper forever. Any idea on costings? XX Thanks!

Angel Avatar

Looks like the eyeshadow palettes will be $39.50, but the nearest duty free to me is unavailable unless i’m departing to somewhere out of the U.S., which I can’t afford to. Figures. So pretty.

Eva Avatar

Umm..since when is Sunday Best a lustre?!?
I love the eye palettes..even though I have most of the e/s in both the neutral and warm eyes, but it sure would be handy to have them all in one little palette.. :o)
The cool eyes one, though, that one would be cool to have.

Tamara Avatar

Of all the times for Springtime Skipper e/s to come out, it comes out in a Duty Free airport palette! Grrrr! I have been wanting it since I missed it with Barbie! I wanted Whistle e/s too!! I’m loving the Neutral palette and the Warm palette….oh, well…I’m not traveling anytime soon so guess I won’t be getting my hands on them unless they end up in CCO’s at some point. 🙁

MsTrendy Avatar

I totally agree… I would PAY BIG bucks for Pink Maribu lipstick also from Barbie I believe. I have been so afraid to finish the tube because onces it gone I wont be able to replace it. Same deal with Skipper. Also want Shy Beauty. I came close at one of the warehouse sales but it was sold out.

Erica Avatar

is there anyway to get a hold of these in San Diego or LA/ hollywood area? I’m not familiar with duty free places since I don’t travel much; thanks!

lisa Avatar

will be travelling in two months so if they are available i will get the warm and neutral ones for sure. They will be perfect to take on trips.

Joanna Avatar

Traveling at the end of April! Hopefully they’re in Orlando and Vancouver. Definitely want the cool eyes and bronze eyes and cheek palette 🙂

Caramel Avatar

OH NOOO! There goes my money! I’m going to several countries in the summer and will be stopping by all the duty-free shops to check out the eye/cheek palettes — I love them all! Especially the Classic, looks so sexy!

Sweets4uk Avatar

do you know which airport sells MAC? heathrow or gatwick?

also cuz they are at the duty free, does that mean I can only purchase them in I am flying? I dont mean to sound stupid, but could I not just go to the airport and pick them up?

Brianne Avatar

Yep, and if I remember correctly, you cannot shop in a DFS in the country in which you are a citizen. As in, if you are a UK citizen, you cannot shop in a UK duty free. I’m going to Mexico in June and I won’t be able to shop in the DFS in the airport here in the US, but I can at the one in Cancun Int’l.

Hanna Avatar

The MAC counter is in Heathrow and it’s a great one. And I am pretty sure that you can shop Duty free in the country of your origin. I am from Denmark and always shop Duty free in Copenhagen airport. No problem there at all. So go check out the counter in Heathrow – God i have spent a lot of money there *lol*

Rita Avatar

Late comment to my original one in April. I went to London in July, and visited the MAC Counter at Heathrow. Unfortunately the Neutral and Warm Eyes Palettes were all sold out, and I think the blush + e/s ones, too. They only had Cool Eyes Palettes. So I did not get mine then, but just recently I managed to buy the Neutral Eyes Palette from UK eBay. I love it! It’s very golden-brown-neutral. If you can find this neat palette from somewhere, buy it!

Candee Sparks Avatar

Oh gosh, here comes the negative balance in my wallet…I really hate MAC some times, I wish they would just come out with a handful of collections throughout the year and made more things perminant rather than just a limited release since there’s a ton of stuff that no body uses that is perminant. =/

diana Avatar

i really want the cool eyes and the warm eyes they are gorgeou it does suck though because i can not put them on my palatte 🙁 i dunno i’ll have to think about it maybe i’ll just get them seperately

Sarah Avatar

None of this stuff speaks to me! 🙁 Really wanted to like this stuff as i have a cousin who works in an airport who already buys cosmetics for me with her staff discount LOL

And is it me or do these just look like the cheap fake MAC palettes than turn up on ebay? blergh!

Anna Avatar

wth? is there any other way to get these other than at an airport? prolly, macpro, right? that is silly, tho. I wouldnt go to an airport for this. I may know some people traveling, so i may ask them to get it for me. but the first pallette is similar to their cool eyes holiday palette, no?

Trina Avatar

that’s the only con to some of mac’s products, they are so exclusive to certain places, unless you are willing to pay department store prices for individual products. i am going on a trip next week so hopefully I can get my hands on a couple pallettes. they are all pretty nice and more compact than 5 or 6 separate containers

Michelle Avatar

Does anyone know the price for the eyeshadow palettes? Or all of it? I’m definitely getting the eyeshadows 🙂
Btw, airport in Norway (Gardemoen) has a MAC counter 😉

Anita Avatar

oh thats awesome!!! I was travelling in January, but the MAC counter in the airport had only a special travel size brush collection and not the palettes. I really hope that the next time I take the plane this palletes would be waiting for me! I gonna be broke even before arriving in the destination point 😀

sj Avatar

I bought the Bronze eye/cheek palette in Bangkok this past week and its is gorgeous. Expensive but I love it. I really wanted Elite and Magic Dust, and Smut is an HG. Eversun is awesome as well.

Alexa Avatar

hi! i just came from sfo airport and checked out the duty free shop…they also have a set of 3 dazzleglasses, 3 dual sided eyeliners (like heatherette i think it was?),& 3 slimshines. they didnt have the neutral eye and lip palette. and the last color on the classic eye-print is not print..its a light green color. color scheme reminded me of the color ready colors. not so great. classic eye and cheek palettes are $34.

sophie Avatar

i aint thrilled bout this collection and unless u were going on holiday i personally wouldnt go to the airport just to buy any of this but i do think warm eyes has some lovly colours

Summer Avatar

Is it just me because it kinda looks like in the classic eye and cheek palett it looks like the sweetness beautypowder blush is tippy beautypowder blush from the hello kitty collection!

Mary Avatar

OMG the blue and the warm eyes palettes are just like calling my name!! my jaw dropped…they’re so perfect. think about all the different combinations you can create!!! ahh the possibilities are ENDLESS!!! =D

Shannon Avatar

Does anyone know if theyre is a MAC store at Frankfurt airport? Im going through there in two days.. If not, isnt there one at Heathrow airport? Ill be staying in Germany for 6 weeks and could probably fly to London for a day or two..

I Avatar

Both Heathrow & Gatwick have MAC – so does Stansted. But you can’t just rock up to the airport and buy them as the shops are in the departure lounge. You’d have to be flying to get through. Luckily a friend of mine is flying from Gatwick soon and has offered to pick up what I want from the collection!

Julie Avatar

I bought the cool eyes palette and was quite disappointed at the size; it was so small! 🙁
On another note though, the colours were DEF gorgeous
LOVE EM!

Stephie Avatar

I have to wonder if these are going to be the palettes that MAC offers during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. These look like that format, and the pricing is around what they would charge.

Jenna Avatar

Does anyone know how I can find out where the MAC Trip collection will be sold? Is it ALL duty-free shops? Are there MAC outlets in airports? Will the MAC items just be on a shelf in any random duty-free shop? I’ll be traveling soon and I’d just hate to end up scouring all the dfs’ at the terminals and not find the whole collection!

aradhana Avatar

i just recently got the warm eye palette…i love it! i was hoping to get the cool one as well, though the LHR mac didn’t have it in stock yet.

alyssamae. Avatar

I live about 2 hours away from an airport, and I’m not planning on traveling anytime during the summer up until August 🙁 Any suggestions where I can get a hold of these pallets?

cmferrets Avatar

thats silly for mac to have their customers to pay for a ticket, just to get a mac pallette.! we should be able to just go in and pick it up , or have it at nordstrom or mac website or stores! im pissed, b/c their are some great colors!

Dominique Avatar

My mom just came back from a flight from London and was able to pop into the duty free MAC at Heathrow. She totally scored for me! She got me the cool eyes palette (last one!), and one of each of the lip palettes because she couldn’t remember which one I wanted. I really like them. I really like the warm lips one even though I didn’t think I would.

For those wondering, you have to be taking a flight somewhere in Terminal 3 I think it is, to be able to enter the duty-free area. You have to have a boarding pass and everything as they will ask you for your flight number. My mom’s flight number is on the receipt.

emily Avatar

hmmm does anyone know how i can find out if there is a duty free shop in the airports ill be traveling in? thanks so much! sorry to sound dumb lol

mlou Avatar

So hoping Cool Eyes palette hits a CCO in the coming months. Well, one of the CCO’s within driving distance. Love SpringtimeSkipper&Waternymph

Dana Avatar

OMG these comments are painful. These products are available on mac.com. You do not have to go to the airports and duty free shops to get them, as stated in the description above.

Jennifer Avatar

I just ordered the Coral Lips set. I don’t have those lipsticks (as I understand they were released previously, and I only got into MAC and Corals last year …Amazing right?) , and I needed a new PRRR… Although I’ve spent a whole lot on my moms card and my bum is gonna get whipped. Oh well , MAC is worth it.

Angela Avatar

Wow! I’m loving the neutral eyes palette. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes open for these next time I’m at the airport. What a great way to get some adventurous new colours without paying a bundle for a bunch of them.

Wilcoa Avatar

SOOOO HAPPPY!!

I didn’t luck out when the sets came out last year, which was a bummer since the palette I got for my trip sucked, so I’ve been trying to find/make one that works better…. so this makes things very easy! 😀

Thanks for the update Christine!

Traci Avatar

well after wanting it when it originally came out, and thinking about this for the past 2 days, I caved and bought the bronze eye & cheek pallet, and the cool eyes pallet! Can’t wait!

Christine Avatar

Those probably sold out while they were available a year ago — normally duty free palettes and the like go to CCOs, but I guess they’re testing out demand seeing if they can sell the palettes online at full retail rather than immediately marking down any leftover stock!

Andrea Avatar

Wow I’ve never seen these pallets in Duty Free before. A good way to keep all your favourite eyeshadows in one place or for MAC newcomers to get their hands on some shadows.

Samantha Avatar

Why is everybody crying about not being able to get something because they are only on duty free shops/airports..these are available online hello!!!

Cherie Avatar

How cute! I am a sucker for a palette!

Christine – I am having problems between cool eyes and neutral eyes… or both… Recommendations? I have always wanted Springtime Skipper and Waternymph but already have Knight Devine… Is it worth it?! After typing this I think I am 99% sure of neutral eyes so that leaves the question as to cool eyes??? Hmm… I’m brown eyed NW15 in MAC.

🙂

Jessie Avatar

They don’t have the warm eyes palette online =( only the neutral and the blue one.. do you already have the lipsticks in the pink lips? Can you swatch those? Do you think it’s worth getting? Thanks for the pictures!

GAO Avatar

OHHH!! I want the Cool lips pallette! It’ll be wayy easier to carry! 🙂
HAHAHHHA!! but I dont know why its not up on the mac website! : (

Sarina Avatar

On the Mac website
they have brush set for 50?
Is it as good as the one you get seperately or they just don’t care and make it bad?

thanks for Info.

Mirna Avatar

Hi Christine,
Thank you so much for doing this. I can narrow down what I like based on them being permanent or not. Really appreciate it 😀

Mara Avatar

I wish this’d come out in the Phils… so badly… I really want the Classic Eye and Cheek Palette as well as the 3 Pink Lips *tear tear*

Andrea Avatar

Hey Christine, I was wondering if you could tell me how Eversun might look on light-medium toned skin? I use MAC’s studio finish concealer in NC 20 for blemishes and redness, but not sure if my skin is actually cool or warm toned.. I’m afraid that Eversun might end up looking orange on me?! I hope you can help!

Thanks 🙂

Christine Avatar

I think Eversun would be pretty, and I don’t think it’d be too orange on you…

but you can find out if you’re cool or warm by looking at the inside of your forearm. If your veins are greener, you’re warmer; if they’re bluer, you’re cooler. If you can’t tell, you’re neutral!

spider Avatar

Hi there,

I love your site and always use it as my first reference for MAC releases!
I just wanted to point out a couple mistakes, in case you want to correct them:

1. Sable is a Frost finish
2. Flashtrack is not a permanent eye shadow

Keep up the great work!

Cat Avatar

so will it be in duty free shops?
because i went on the mac website and under collections and this didn’t appear anymore.

i really want the brush set and neutral eyeshadow palette.
