Release Date + About the Launch

A mesmerizing refillable satin lipstick housed in a faceted square glass case inspired by the mirrors that line the legendary Art Deco staircase in Gabrielle Chanel’s Paris apartment at 31 rue Cambon. 31 LE ROUGE unlocks a fusion of sophistication, technical mastery and design fluidity with an intimate, aesthetic experience.

Each hue is a vibrant reflection of Mademoiselle’s memories, the expertise demonstrated by the ateliers and the creativity and vitality integral to the iconic address. These colours were created to reveal, to embellish, to state the obvious; they were made for singularity rather than subtlety.

Yikes, yikes, yikes! At first, I thought that price was for the whole collection of these lippies! Are they really glass, as in “breakable when you drop them as we so often do” glass? At this price, they should also include breakage insurance. WAAAAY out of my price range!

I do really love the packaging but at this price point, Chanel may have just priced me out of their market. I guess I have to take a step back and ask myself why I would consider buying a highlighter or powder for $75 from Westman Atelier and not a lipstick for $80. I do enjoy lipsticks probably more than any other makeup product. I love wearing different colors on my lips. These would have to be some pretty spectacular shades.

Well, it’s beautiful. I’ll give Chanel that. Someone above said she thought it was priced for the collection…so did I. That said, it’s a big no for me. I’d probably drop it the first time I opened the package. I am curious as to why they think the price is justified. Is this a different formula than their normal lipstick? Is it gold infused? There are some excellent drugstore lipsticks (Maybelline, Revlon, ColorPop). Then there are some very nice mid price lipsticks (Urban Decay, MAC). And my favorites are the more luxurious lipsticks (Lancome, Guerlain, and Dior). I see no reason to consider these, not even in my dreams, lol.

Wow and you’re even supposed to carry it in the travel pouch when putting it in your purse? This thing looks FRAGILE and not what you want to have in your bag lol!!

Gorgeous, bold lipstick colors and a strikingly beautiful lipstick case, but I audibly gasped when I saw the price tag! $195? I didn’t think that there was a lipstick on this earth that I would refuse to buy if I loved the color and the case. Mademoiselle has proved me wrong.

Is it some celebratory year for Chanel this year? Or have they just decided to out price every other brand?
I mean, I could maybe pay the cost of a refill, but I will not buy a lipstick for $195.
Besides, I hope they come with a designated little pouch as the glass would become scratched if put multiple times in a hand bag, at least in mine.
I hope those who do buy one or more of these will enjoy them, and I hope they are makeup lovers and not just wannabe old money quiet luxury elite whatever people with too much money.
I just had to after a summer of reading about this “new” esthetic in clothes. Sorry for the rant, stepping down now!

Beautiful case, but wow! I do know one thing, if you buy the refills only, you will need the glass holder with the mechanism to twist! I did see a hack on YouTube, where you’d have to press your index finger inwards really hard at the bottom and you’ll be able to twist the tube open or back down. See YouTube by super dacob.
